Read Aloud & Check for Understanding

Motto: Dream without fear. Love without limits.

In this fairy tale, the main theme is the love between two young people. An evil Witch wants to destroy their love, but she doesn't do it in the end. Rapunzel is a fairy tale about the love between a young prince and a girl with long, blond hair that conquered all of the Witch's evil intentions. Rapunzel hatches a plan to join her Prince by creating a ladder from small pieces of silk. The Prince loves Rapunzel for more than just her lush hair so, even when her hair is cut off, his love her for her unwavering. Rapunzel’s quick wit and handiwork was the reason she was finally able to escape. Her Prince, although he fetched the silk for her, didn’t save her. She saved herself.

Discussion Questions:

1, If Rapunzel had a job in 2020 it may be a painter. Can you imagine being able to hire Rapunzel to paint your bedroom? What would you have her paint on your walls?

2, If Rapunzel had a car in 2020 it may be a Toyota Highlander so she can easily travel in all types of terrain and sit up higher like in her tower. What color do you think she would choose? Purple? Yellow?

3. Rapunzel may live in a highrise apartment building in 2020 on the very top floor. She enjoyed looking down in her tower at the scenery and looking up at the sky. What other things would she enjoy doing at in the top floor of an apartment building?

4, Rapunzel would definitely have Netflix and Disney+! What shows do you think she would enjoy binging? Maybe Bob Ross, the Happy Painter?

Additional Discussion Questions (Gifted & Talented Extension)

1, What restaurants do you think Rapunzel would enjoy? What foods would she eat?

2, If Rapunzel got ice cream what do you think her favorite flavor would be and why?

3, Rapunzel has a chameleon named Pascal. Did you know she named him after a famous artist? Look up some of Pascal’s most famous paintings. Which is your favorite?

Assignment

Rapunzel painted her tower with flowers, floating lights, trees, birds, and more that made her feel happy. Use the artistic medium of your choice (crayons, markers, paints, colored pencils) and create a wall design for Rapunzel to paint in your room! Make sure to be able to describe why you'd like the designs that you've drawn.
